Tom Hardy Is Almost Unrecognizable in New Shots From Al Capone Biopic

He’s totally transformed himself for ‘Fonzo’.

We’ve been given a glance at Tom Hardy’s Al Capone in an Instagram tease on the actor’s account. Next to new photos Hardy recently posted, that was nothing.

For Fonzo, Hardy has completely disappeared into Capone in a truly creepy way.

Mega awkward character misstep 👀

If these pics are puzzling, we should recap what Fonzo is about. Via MovieWeb:

[Fonzo] Centers on Alfonse Capone, the ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist before being famously taken down by Eliot Ness. After nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots his mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.

Hardy posted his Instas in the last five days. The reason they look so monstrous is likely because he’s portraying Capone at the very end, when his mind was almost completely gone, possibly destroyed by syphilis.

Hardy completed one of his physical transformations to play Al Capone, but in an interview with the Daily Beast he made it clear that he feels the changes he’s made for roles have taken their toll. “I’ve probably damaged my body too much,” he said, “I’m only little! If I keep putting on weight I’ll collapse like a house of cards under too much pressure.”

Fonzo doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but should be in theaters in late 2018.
