Remember when you studied abroad and your mom was irrationally worried there was going to be a horrible coup wherever you were stationed? Don’t let her see No Escape, the new thriller poised to overtake the Taken franchise in the beloved “terrible things happening to young Americans when they travel internationally” genre. In the just-released trailer, Owen Wilson and Lake Bell move their family to an unidentified Southeast Asian country only to immediately have to deal with a bloody uprising. Pierce Brosnan shows up too as a mysterious, bewhiskered government operative. Politically and historically accurate? Probably not. But we’re willing to ignore that in favor of the adrenaline rush.
A coup d'état gets the Hollywood treatment.
