WATCH: ‘Pam & Tommy’ Trailer Revisits Infamous Sex Tape Scandal
“It’s like we’re seeing something we’re not supposed to be seeing, which is kind of what makes it so hot.”
The world’s first viral sex tape scandal is front-and-center in the first trailer for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.
Produced by Seth Rogen and his longtime creative partner Evan Goldberg, the biographical miniseries stars Lily James and Sebastian Stan as rockstar 90s couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The actors’ transformation into the Baywatch beauty and Mötley Crüe drummer was revealed earlier this year.
As the AV Club notes, the trailer opens with Rogen as mulleted electrician Rand Gauthier, the man who stole the X-rated footage, and Nick Offerman as dirtball porn producer “Uncle Miltie.”
“Goddamn. It’s so…private,” Offerman’s character utters. “It’s like we’re seeing something we’re not supposed to be seeing, which is kind of what makes it so hot. If this thing ever got out…”
Spoiler: the sex tape got out. But there’s plenty more story to dive into over the show’s eight episodes. The New York Post cites a 2014 Rolling Stone exposé in describing Gauthier’s vengeful motivations.
A newly married Lee and Anderson reportedly stuck the tradesman for $20,000 after he completed electrical work on their Malibu mansion. When Gauthier returned to the property to gather his tools, Lee held him at gunpoint. Gauthier then decided to break into the residence and steal the couple’s safe, where the tape was hidden.
That’s just one tabloid-worthy tidbit to look forward to from Pam & Tommy, which debuts on Hulu February 2.
