Watch Red Bull’s Extreme Bike Race Down Thousands of Stairs

There is such a fine line between competition and suicide.

Every year in Valparaiso, Chile, Red Bull holds one of the world’s craziest, gravity-driven races: an extreme, high-speed downhill mountain-bike competition that, in a twist, happens on a course of urban streets and winding staircases. This GoPro video shows exactly how fast these guys go down staircases you wouldn’t attempt on foot, but then, they need to maintain enough speed to make it over the many jumps included in the course. The wildest thing about this video? Despite the insane speed and perfect bike-control Tomas Slavik shows, this seemingly perfect run was only good enough for second place.
