We Want to Be Friends with Deadpool

Bask in the glory that is the ‘Merc with the Mouth.’

Fans rejoice! After years of anticipation following Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of Deadpool in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as well as a teaser clip showing what could be if a standalone film ever came to fruition, we have finally been blessed with a full-fledged, glorified mess of a red band trailer. Deadpool will follow Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, a former military man who, after receiving news of a terminal diagnosis, goes under the knife and agrees to a procedure that will grant him extraordinary powers. If you aren’t a Marvel maniac and are unaware of the storyline, it’s evident by viewing the preview that said experiment worked – Wilson turns into a blood-red suited warrior, equipped with guns, blades, and the ability to heal from wounds extremely fast.

After spending most of the workday with the trailer on repeat, here’s a few of our favorite things:

The Carnage

The version of Deadpool back in 2009 was mediocre at best. Even the Deadpool trailer before the trailer teased about the fact that they had his mouth SEWN SHUT. If we’ve learned anything from this 2:54 video of glory, we know that Wade Wilson was born to speak. Ryan Reynolds already has some experience playing the obnoxious, brash, and quirky characters (see Blade: Trinity), so we expect an award-winning performance this time around.

The Sex

With the film at an R-rating (thank god), we’re expecting carnage to the max. When people aren’t being shot in the head, we wouldn’t mind a sex scene here and there. Seems like our prayers have been answered in the form of always sexy Morena Baccarin.

The Mutants

Deadpool is a standalone film in the M.C.U, but that doesn’t mean other Marvel characters won’t show up for a cameo appearance. One that we’re most excited about is Colossus, who’s seen here lifting an arm and launching our hero across a highway with little effort. We first saw the metal monster in the X-Men series, so it makes our nerdy hearts skip a beat to see the character in another flick outside his zip code. Knowing where his allegiances lie on the other hand, is a mystery.

The Bad Ass Bitch

Helllloooooo there, Gina Carano. Hearing the former MMA fighter was cast as mutant Angel Dust got us pretty pumped, because it guaranteed some sweet actions scenes all done by the lady herself. She’s been on our radar ever since she kicked Channing Tatum’s ass in 2011’s underrated action-thriller Haywire, and again when she threw Michelle Rodriguez down some stairs in Fast and Furious6. Now we’re just waiting for her to come out of retirement and step into the ring.. we’re looking at you, Ronda Rousey.

The Gun Sniff

An epic ending to the trailer, we’re taking it all in just as much as Deadpool himself.

The film, starring Ryan Reynolds, T.J Miller, Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin, and Ed Skrein, is set for release on February 12, 2016. We’re touching ourselves already.
