So why isn’t this Ravens cheerleading veteran going to the Super Bowl?

By now, the entire universe is very aware that Ray Lewis is retiring this year, nicely wrapping up his 17 season career with a Super Bowl appearance.


Earlier this week, however, news started to spread that another veteran member of the Ravens family would also be retiring at the end of this season: Cheerleader Courtney Lenz, a Baltimore native, who has been with the team for five years, ever since she was a college freshman. She actually informed the team of her retirement plans after the Ravens’ last home game, four days after Lewis. Unlike the star linebacker, though, she’s been cut short of what should’ve been her final appearance with the team at the big game this Sunday.


On Tuesday it was reported that even though the Ravens could only take 32 girls from the 60-member squad, all 3+-year veterans would be going – except for Courtney. “I wouldn’t even have reached out and let fans know if I didn’t think it was clearly wrong,” she told ABCNews.com. “I’m just devastated by the whole situation.”


And Courtney isn’t the only one who’s devastated. So far over 22,500 fans have signed an online petition to bring her to the Super Bowl.


While the Ravens won’t give the press a specific reason as to why she wasn’t picked for the Super Bowl squad, Courtney maintains that the news she was leaving didn’t sit well with the team director, and that this could be retaliation for her retirement. Or it could be because she was benched earlier this season for a two-pound weight gain, which seems ridiculous to us because we always gain two pounds after lunch.


And honestly at this point we’d rather see Courtney shake her pom-poms one last time than watch Lewis turn on the waterworks every 10 minutes.
