Whoops! ‘The Last of Us’ Sequel May Have Just Accidentally Been Confirmed
A happy “accident,” indeed.
Video game developer Naughty Dog may have let the cat out of the bag at a recent livestream for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, a set of stunning HD remakes of the Uncharted series. Though fans have for some time clamored for a sequel to the excellent survival horror title The Last of Us, to date there’s yet to be official confirmation of a sequel.
That changed when Naughty Dog employees Eric Monacelli, Josh Scherr, and Eric Baldwin convened during the special presentation and made a bit of a slip. While discussing details surrounding facial animations for both Uncharted and The Last of Us, Josh Scherr made the following statement:
“All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric, here . . . and [on] the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the firstThe Last of Us?”
Scherr’s slip-up seems to indicate that we’re going to be seeing a follow-up to the original game for sure, but whether it was an unintentional misstatement or a clever way to get fans buzzing is up for debate.
The news comes a few months after voice actor Nolan North dropped a hint about a sequel during a panel at MetroCon. Naughty Dog didn’t confirm or deny the announcement, but given Nolan North’s history with the company Naughty Dog, it struck many as a plausible clue.
We’ve reached out to Naughty Dog for comment and will update if the company replies. At this point, all signs point to a The Last of Us 2 in the near future, and the upcoming PlayStation Experience, slated for December seems an ideal venue to give it a proper unveiling.
Looks like we’ll have to wait and see.
