Watch Will Smith Take on the NFL in the First Trailer for Concussion

The sports drama tackles the ugly truth of brain trauma amongst football players.

Pervasive brain injuries that cause debilitating long-term problems — and even suicides — in the NFL are an extreme problem that the organization has gone to lengths to ignore. Based on a 2009 GQ articleConcussion tells the story about the Nigerian-born doctor, Dr. Bennet Omanlu (Will Smith) who first discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. If the first trailer is any indication, it’s an unflinching look at the roadblocks and deception Omanlu faced when attempting to get the NFL to own up to the problem. The powerful sports drama, which also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Alec Baldwin, will hit theaters on Christmas Day.
