Coca-Cola Just Announced Its First-Ever Alcoholic Beverage

No, it’s not just canned Jack and Coke.

After years of being used as a mixer, Coca-Cola is expediting the process by putting alcohol directly into a soft drink.

Fortune reports that the monster beverage brand is will begin selling their version of a boozey soda called Chu-Hi exclusively in the Japanese market.

The news came via an interview with Jorge Garduño, the company’s Japan president, published recently on Coke’s corporate website.

“The Chu-Hi category is found almost exclusively in Japan,” Garduño said. “Globally, it’s not uncommon for non-alcoholic beverages to be sold in the same system as alcoholic beverages. It makes sense to give this a try in our market.”

Sadly, Garduño also implicitly stated that the American market shouldn’t bank on seeing Chu-Hi any time soon.

“I don’t think people around the world should expect to see this kind of thing from Coca-Cola.”

“While many markets are becoming more like Japan, I think the culture here is still very unique and special, so many products that are born here will stay here.”‘

That does leave the door open for a different product. We see great potential in a Coca-Cola/Jack Daniel’s partnership—just sayin’.
