UFC ‘BMF’ Champion Jorge Masvidal Launches Recuerdo Mezcal Brand
Masvidal is following his potential future opponent Conor McGregor into the booze business.
UFC fighter and “baddest motherfucker” title belt holder Jorge Masvidal has launched his own booze brand, Recuerdo Mezcal.
The Miami-born brawler known as “Gamebred” unveiled the spirit before UFC 246, where ads for Conor McGregor’s Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey adorned the Octagon during McGregor’s 40-second wipeout of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Masvidal, who is looking to similarly cash in with his own boozy side-hustle, was spotted holding a bottle of Recuerdo while rocking a Versace robe from his cageside seat.
“I’ve tasted a number of mezcals, but until Recuerdo Mezcal I hadn’t found one I was willing to put my name behind,” Masvidal said in a statement announcing the partnership. Recuerdo is distilled with traditional production techniques using sustainably harvested Oaxacan agave, according to the brand. There’s an “Abocado con Gusano” mezcal enriched with the agave worm for a silkier texture, and a worm-less “Joven” expression with smokier tasting notes.
Besides following McGregor into the booze business, Masvidal is also trying to fight the Irish superstar for what would be a career-high payday against the UFC’s most bankable name. After McGregor beat down Cerrone, he also expressed interest in fighting for the BMF belt that Masvidal received for defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244.
“That’s not a great belt, but I’ll still take it,” McGregor said after UFC 246. “Add it to the list.”
Masvidal has also said he wants a McGregor fight—even more than a title shot with reigning welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. “I know my management without a doubt would say, and I would also say, the Conor fight,” Masvidal said, per ESPN. “We’ll go get the money, because the Conor fight is not always going to be there. [Usman] is always going to be there. Somebody is always going to have that belt.”

However, UFC President Dana White has said that McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov II is the superfight to make next. “If Conor and Masvidal fight, neither one of them even has a title, although Conor does want his ‘BMF’ title, but he doesn’t have a world championship,” White said, according to Bloody Elbow.
“Khabib’s the fight to make. It’s huge for Khabib’s legacy, too. If he beat Conor McGregor, and then he beats Tony Ferguson, and then he beats Conor McGregor again, this is how this kid when he retires, he’s 30-something and 0 and he’s beat all the best.”
Regardless, Masvidal’s name is definitely in the mix for some big UFC fights to come. As for his new booze, Recuerdo Mezcal is launching initially in Texas, California and Florida at an affordable $34.99 for the Joven and $37.99 for the con Gusano. A nationwide roll-out is coming soon.
