The mergers and acquisitions market is blowing up the gaming industry. That could be bad news – or it could bring back the Battletoads.

The video game industry generates some $21 billion annually and, like any other sector, is defined by its giants. This would be Microsoft and Sony, who both throw their weight and cash around, picking up (and off) studios left and right. The buyouts come with a hell of a lot of cash, but they don’t necessarily give gamers much to cheer about. Old franchises often join the roster of the lost and gone forever. But the video game dead don’t need to stay dead. Here are the franchises we want to see given a second life.
