The Biggest Gun Fight The Internet Ever Saw

Over the weekend, 1000 players participated in the ultimate battle royale.

While the rest of us we’re enjoying a mid-winter weekend – long naps, watching Oscar-bait, rolling around on bear-skin rugs, over a thousand gamers were engaged in total gun-toting mayhem. The game? PlanetSide 2, where players explore a chaotic world of explosions, whizzing bullets, and a high school’s worth of other players, all vying for the top spot. The Guinness World Record? “Single Largest Online First-Person Shooter Battle.”

Of course, this pales in comparison to the largest online battle ever, in which 7,548 people fought one another in a massive Eve Online battle that saw over $300,000 spent on spaceships (which were subsequently destroyed). Still, the latest round of digital carnage was insane. It’s like the internet found a way to make flash mobs awesome instead of the opposite of awesome.
