New XBox Controller Could Totally Change Gaming
Both casual and pro gamers have a new secret weapon.
Announced back at E3 in June, Microsoft’s new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller ($150) is now available for pre-order. But according to a dispatch from Xbox today, almost the entire first shipment—expected to hit shelves on Tuesday—has already been spoken for. Why so popular?
The Elite is crafted to be both super durable and customizable enough to satisfy the most competitive (think pro-level) gamers. For example, you can swap a variety of stainless steel directional pads (including a cool new one that looks like a kettle drum) and thumbsticks. Interchangeable paddles let you keep your thumbs on the sticks while executing complicated combo moves. And the app—which works on Xbox and Windows 10—lets you assign buttons as you please, adjust value ranges, and fine tune sensitivities.
Even cooler, you can set up different profiles that live right on the controller itself and allow you to literally flip personalities on-the-fly. Another switch activates hair trigger locks that let you execute more rapid fire. For more details on what went into creating this bad boy, check out the video:
To further engage your salivary glands, Major Nelson will be hosting an official unboxing of the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller via Periscope today at 9AM PT/ 12PM ET. Search for @MajorNelson in the app. If you miss it, check back on the Xbox Wire later today.
