LG Reveals Massive 49-Inch ‘UltraWide’ Computer Monitor

You’re gonna need a bigger desk.

LG is making a computer monitor that’s probably wider than the TV in your living room.

Ahead of the 2019 Computer Electronics Show, the tech giant announced the 49-inch UltraWide Monitor as a superior alternative to awkward multi-screen setups. 

Designed with the multitasker in mind, the new display has a 32:9 aspect ratio curved screen and 5,120 by 2,160 pixel resolution that supports HDR10 (but not HDR10+). LG says that it’s equivalent to two 27-inch Quad HD monitors placed side by side.

To make the most of the incredibly expansive screen real estate, the LG UltraWide Monitor features a Picture-by-Picture mode to view content from multiple sources side-by-side and work with multiple applications simultaneously. 

Dual Controller Software allows connection to several devices all controllable via a single keyboard and mouse, working seamlessly with PBP to improve workflow and increase efficiency. With USB Type-C ports, users can transfer data and charge devices – even laptops – simultaneously.

Additionally, LG announced the slightly smaller Nano IPS UltraGear Monitor. The high-speed, 38-inch display is designed specifically for gamers with 3840 by 1600 pixel resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate and 21:9 aspect ratio curved screen. 

The UltraGear also supports NVIDIA G-SYNC adaptive synchronization and boasts something called Sphere Lighting, which gives users the choice of six different backlight settings that supposedly reduce eye fatigue. 

Both the LG UltraWide and UltraGear monitors will be on display from January 8-11 at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.
