This Massive New 77-Inch OLED Television Is Mind-Bogglingly Thin
It’s arguably the best TV on the planet.
Though you might’ve already caught a quick glimpse of it in this year’s Liam Neeson “Man from the Future” Superbowl commercial, LG officially unveiled its flagship 77-inch Signature OLED TV ($20,000) this week at the CEDIA show in Dallas.
This super set is both expansive (roughly 40 percent larger than its 65-inch equivalent) and expensive (costing 2 1/2 times as much). But if you want arguably the best set on the planet, you’ve likely already got the space and funds all lined up.
Other than bragging rights (which we’re not above), why bother?
In a nutshell, it’s the biggest set featuring the three most important technologies in televisions today: OLED, 4K and HDR. They combine to promise the deepest, most realistically lifelike picture available. Crisp and vibrant even when bright objects appear right next to dark ones, which doesn’t play out well on most displays.
Beyond all the technical details of how it offers a spectacular, cinematic visual experience, any average Joe can see that this TV is easy on the eyes.
Structurally speaking, there’s not much to see. It’s pretty much just a big piece of glass that’s only 1/10-inch thin resting on an elegant looking sound bar that doubles as a stand. Rather wall mount it? The speaker folds up and under.
This boundary-pushing TV is yours to pre-order, with expected delivery starting next month.
In addition to the glory of having the set itself, buying it comes with LG’s “Signature Concierge,” a personalized 24/7 VIP-level service. Along with your welcome package and personalized call to explain the program, one of the best benefits is that a technician pinpoints an exact arrival time. The $200 American Express gift card, LG G Pad Tablet and future access to special invitations that are included are a nice touch as well.
