LG’s New Refrigerator Makes ‘Craft Ice’ For Spirits and Cocktails

This fun-loving fridge makes the same kind of ice you get at craft cocktail bars.

LG’s latest refrigerator is definitely designed to raise a glass to the home mixologist or cocktail aficionado.

In addition to producing regular cubed and crushed ice, the LG InstaView Door-in-Door fridge also makes “Craft Ice”–spherical, slow-melting ice balls measuring two inches in diameter that are perfect for enjoying fine spirits on the rocks or in a cocktail.

At any given moment, up to 25 of the fancy-looking ice balls reside in the freezer’s drawer bin, ready to chill a rocks glass filled with scotch, bourbon, rye, tequila, rum or whatever your preferred spirit or cocktail is, without diluting it too quickly.

Of course, one doesn’t buy a refrigerator for a niche capability like that, even if Craft Ice is an industry first. But the InstaView line—named for the tinted glass panel on the right door that illuminates its contents when knocked on twice—boasts a number of other neat features.

LG’s ThinQ mobile app allows users to manage the Wi-Fi-enabled InstaView—and all other LG smart appliances—remotely with voice commands received by Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

For instance, Smart Ice Plus can ice production into overdrive ahead of, say, the arrival of guests to a last-minute cocktail party, Panorama View lets you look inside with your smartphone, and Smart Label keeps track of expiration dates.

Available in 24 or 30-cubic-foot sizes and with black or regular stainless steel finishes, the new LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator starts at $4,399.99.
