Virtual Reality Gaming Gets Real With Epic Games’ Bullet Train

Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch controllers combine for an explosive experience.

Virtual reality is undoubtedly the next frontier when it comes to gaming, so it’s no surprise that Epic Games (Gears of War, Bulletstorm) is seeking something new and interesting to push for its own personal Oculus Rift VR project. Bullet Train, a VR first-person shooter, seeks to conjure the very same type of interaction with the environment moviegoers saw in The Matrix — more specifically, bullet time. It’s implemented in so many awesome ways in this upcoming title that it’s hard to look away from the demo footage.

Your character in Bullet Train cannot die, and can instead catch bullets and sling them back at targets, as well as the guns they were shot from. It’s fast and furious gameplay, according to Engadget’s preview, and features quick, exaggerated movements with teleportation throughout play areas and special forms of haptic feedback that allow for an additional dimension not many other shooters have: touch.

Using the special Oculus Touch controller in tandem with the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, the game offers haptic feedback, such as the ability to cock a gun and feel it as well as other augments that push Bullet Train ahead of the competition. It’s a shooter for people who hate shooters, and it looks absolutely impressive. We can’t wait to get our hands on it and our minds wrapped around it.
