Everyone has a number, and in today’s age of smartphone seduction, we’re willing to bet that number is larger than ever. Between Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Match, Ok Cupid and that one with the ghost, sex is literally at our fingertips. But is this abundance of booty actually inhibiting your love life?

According to a recent study, research shows the less people you sleep with makes you more attractive to women. What is the ideal number, you ask? Three. Yes, you read the right. Three sexual partners is the preferred amount when considering entering a relationship.

“Contrary to the idea that male promiscuity is tolerated but female promiscuity is not, both sexes expressed equal reluctance to get involved with someone with an overly extensive sexual history,” notes Dr. Steven Stewart-Williams, a psychologist involved in the study.

Additional research concluded that the men involved in the study averaged 8.4 partners (.4?), while women averaged around 5.81 partners.

To put the icing on the proverbial cake, the study also found two not-so-shocking differences between men and women’s sexual preferences: men were more willing to date a virgin (duh), and men were far less interested in a women’s sexual history when it came to dating (fucking duh).

Whether you land on the Mick Jagger side of the spectrum, or consider yourself the Paul Newman, dream husband type, there is no right or wrong answer to how many women you should sleep with—no matter what your girlfriend says.

Sex is sex is sex (as long as your safe!), so we say go out there and keep doing you. And her. And her, too.
