This Convicted Drug Trafficker Attempted a Prison Escape With a Hilariously Terrible Disguise
Prison officials are still trying to figure out how he acquired the get-up.
Clodoaldo Antonio Felipe apparently tried to one-up Sinaloa drug cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman when he attempted to escape Brazil’s Coronel Odenir Guimaraes Prison. While El Chapo‘s mile-long tunnel is the stuff of legend, Felipe—a convicted drug trafficker serving a nearly 40-year stretch—tried his exit in plain sight, wearing a dress, women’s shoes, and a strikingly realistic mask that looked like an elderly woman.
The mask was described by officials as “a professional Hollywood-standard creation,” reported the Mirror. But there were aspects of his appearance that Felipe couldn’t hide, and officials caught onto the scheme when they went to check the apparent grandma’s papers:
They also noticed that the woman seemed to be rather tall for an elderly female, and after deciding to search her, female prison officers realised that the elderly woman was actually a man.
Just like that, Felipe was busted, mask, dress, and all. It didn’t help that officials couldn’t remember an elderly woman entering the facility.
The Mirror reported that officials are still trying to figure out how the prisoner acquired the mask, as such creations can sell for as much as $1200.
While it’s a good thing that another drug cartel member didn’t manage to pull off an impressively creative prison break, we still have to admire Felipe’s ingenuity and his willingness to go the extra mile, complete with a tacky dress, to try and taste freedom again.
