Cat People Are Sad And Single While Dog People Are Blessed And Happy, Says New Study

Facebook just poured gasoline on the eternal battle between cat people and dog people.

There are two types of people in this world. Dog people, and cat people. And no matter what you personally believe, the truth is that there are huge differences between the two groups of pet owners–and a new Facebook study seeks to explain exactly what the hell they are.

The Facebook Research team conducted a study of 160,000 users who had uploaded pictures of either their dog or cat, in order to find out if those people shared the same personality traits as their pet.

The research team said, “Stereotypically, dogs are more social and easy-going, while cats are reserved, independent, and unpredictable. Are any of these characteristics reflected in the people who adore them?”

The results are essentially exactly what you’d expect. Dog owners are friendly and love to love, while many cat owners have no chill. But by all means, read on for the full, somewhat tongue-in-cheek analysis, first brought to our attention by our friends at BroBible.

1. Dog people have more friends.
The study found that unlike cat people, dog lovers have lots of friends, because dogs are amazing and obviously their owners must be, too. However, cat people get invited to more events for some reason. But whatever, it’s not like they go to those events, anyway.

2. Cat people are more likely to be single, obviously.
Hence the term “crazy cat lady.” Need I say more?

3. Cat people tend to live in cities, whereas dog people mostly live in rural areas.
Dogs need a big yard to run around and poop in, whereas cats give no fucks and are totally content sitting in a closet-sized apartment all day.

4. “Cat people are especially fond of fantasy, sci-fi, and anime, while dog people like love stories and things about dogs.”
Just look at the charts for a better understanding than words could illustrate. Cat people are represented in blue (probably because they’re sad), and dog people are in green.

As you can see from the graphic above, cat lovers enjoy reading some really dark stuff, including Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Harry Potter, and George Orwell’s 1984.

On the other hand, dog people like to read about happy things like love, Nicholas Sparks novels, and other dogs, because dog people are just happier, right?

It looks like dog people are into kink, judging from their love of Fifty Shades of Grey, and cat people are into The Emperors New Groove and Terminator 2. Not sure what the correlation is here, so let’s just move on.

Cat people obviously love anime. The end.

Last but not least, everything gets validated in this one simple chart, in which we can see the general mood states of the two types of people.

As expected, cat people are tired, annoyed, sad, and emotional (and sometimes loved, when their cat feels like not being an asshole and stops judging for once), whereas dog people are excited, proud, #blessed, and fabulous. Hell yeah.

Fab.

Thanks, Facebook, for proving that dogs are literally angels and their owners are just as cool happy people. But if cats, anime, and Dracula are your thing, that’s cool too. You do you.
