Saudi Arabia Gives Man Terrible Punishment for Objectionable Tweets
As you hit send on your latest snarky tweet, think about how lucky you are.
A 28-year-old man from Saudi Arabia has been given an insane punishment for a string of anti-Islamic tweets. When religious police found more than 600 tweets in which the man discussed atheism and denied the Quran, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 2,000 lashes.
The Saudi Kingdom is known for draconian punishments, but this news still shocks.
The man refused to apologize for his social media activity after his arrest and confessed to being an atheist. According to the Associated Press, he proclaimed his writings “reflected his own beliefs and that he had the right to express them.”
That takes some real guts.
