Most citizens of the United States look at rally racing and wonder, “Why are those race cars so small?” The truth is, while the cars are petit, the men and women who pilot rally racers—especially the World Rally Championship drivers in Europe—are among the best walking the earth. The driver of this Citroën C2, Yoan Droumenq, and his navigator Gabriel Durand, were zipping along a narrow, winding lane in Provence, France at 2015 Rallye Ronde de La Durance this past weekend when a tree reached out and nearly killed both men. The car disintegrated, the occupants walked away. Chalk up another victory for automotive safety.
