The Blacked-Out Isuzu Stealth Has Us Wishing for an Isuzu Comeback in the US

Don’t you miss Joe Isuzu?

Isuzu

Japanese carmaker Isuzu flamed out of the U.S. market and abandoned passenger car models in favor of trucks, but those of us with fond memories of rugged SUVs like the Trooper and oddball creations like the Vehicross might get a thrill from the new Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Stealth.

This customized D-Max pickup might have an unwieldy name, but its rugged looks grabbed our attention. The 162-horsepower 1.9-liter diesel four-cylinder engine is stock, but the 4×4 rolls on beefy 315/70R17 Nokian Rotiiva tires. The engine’s 266 lb.-ft. torque should power the D-Max through tough conditions.

The off-road spec Fox shocks will also help as the D-Max attack off-road runs, but many of the other parts added for the AT35 Stealth are primarily for appearance. Consider the blacked-out grille, black rear “sports bar,” (NOT a roll bar!), and bed cover.

Other goodies include LED lights and custom upholstery.

If not the Trooper or Vehicross, readers of a certain age may recall Isuzu’s television commercials of the 1980s, which featured a lying salesman called “Joe Isuzu,” who shamelessly exaggerated the attributes of Isuzu’s vehicles.

Alas, Isuzu is still gone from the U.S. market, so if you want a D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Stealth, you’ll have to go to Britain to get one.
