The New Audi Sport Quattro Concept Car Has Laser Headlights

Frickin’ lasers!

No, Dr. Evil did not design Audi’s all-new concept car, the Sport Quattro, but we’d understand if you thought he did. After all, the new lightweight coupe, which is being unveiled this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, will have laser—yes, laser—headlights. As Professor Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, a member of the board of Audi’s technical development team puts it, the new lighting technology will “leave all previous systems in the dark with its higher performance.” And who are we to disagree with a German scientist?

The use of lasers isn’t the only thing that’s totally insane about the Sport Quattro. It’s also got a combo V8/electric engine that, together, will produce a mind-boggling 700 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That translates to a top speed of 190 miles an hour and a 0-60 time of only 3.7 seconds. Audi also claims the car will be packed with tech like regenerative braking and huge carbon-fiber ceramic disc brakes. Physically, the beast sits wide and low, giving it an extremely aggressive and sporty look. (As if its laser eyes weren’t enough.) Dr. Evil, your chariot awaits!
