We’ve Got Lust for the Rust Finish on this Custom BMW i8

You too can make your new car look old.

Miami singer Austin Mahone couldn’t go for anything as commonplace as a chrome wrap for his BMW i8, so he went with an alternative look: rust.

Normally, if you wanted a car to look rusty in south Florida, you’d strip the paint off and roll it out by the ocean to let salt air work its chemical magic on bare steel. However, the i8 has carbon fiber body panels, so that wasn’t an option.

Enter Metrowrapz of Hollywood Beach, which developed a process for applying a rust finish to a vinyl wrap over the carbon fiber. If you’re looking for this kind of finish on your car, the team at Metrowrapz says they can do it for about $6,000.
