Some Lucky Bastard Will Win the “Smokey and the Bandit” Trans Am on “Fast N’ Loud”

Sadly, Burt Reynolds’ mustache is not included.

When it comes to iconic Hollywood automobiles, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am from the ’70s classic Smokey and the Bandit is right up there with 007’s Aston Martin DB5, the Dukes of Hazzard‘s General Lee, and the Batmobile. And now, some lucky mofo is about to win it! Yes, Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman, the master car restorers from Fast N’ Loud, have completely rebuilt the Bandit’s wheels and are giving it away during a special live episode airing next week. (The last few episodes of the show revealed a secret code that competitors entered online for a chance to win.)

Now, don’t think the winner will be getting their hands on some rusty old piece of metal. “This car is a lighter/meaner/faster version of the original,” Richard tells us, “but it still holds the classic style and overall appearance.” As for the experience of meeting his hero Burt Reynolds, who makes an appearance on the special, Richard says, “Working with him was an unreal experience. I grew up watching him and, besides my father, he was the driving force getting me into cars and motorcycles. It was unbelievable – a childhood dream come true.” As far as we’re concerned, this is must-see TV.

The special live episode of Fast N’ Loud airs at 9pm EST on Monday, January 13, on Discovery.
