The Need For Speed: Watch Tom Cruise Face Off Against Two F1 Drivers In A Porsche 911 GT3

“I feel the need…”

Tom Cruise put the pedal to the metal while promoting his blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick on the U.K.’s Channel 4 Sport.

In the video above, Cruise challenges former Formula 1 drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber to a “dogfight” on the legendary Silverstone racetrack.

All three are driving a Porsche 911 GT3 as they push their cars to the limit with Cruise in hot pursuit.

As the trio begins their good-natured race, scenes from Top Gun: Maverick are blended with shots from the actual race on the track and “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins plays in the background.

Cruise also gets into character to deliver some of his best-known Top Gun lines as he takes on the two former F1 racers, warning them that he does indeed have “the need for speed”–perhaps the most famous phrase from the original Top Gun. Cruise also calls Channel 4 F1 presenter Steve Jones “Iceman”–a nod to Val Kilmer’s classic character.

After Cruise’s Porsche chases them around on the track for a bit, they all end up singing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by The Righteous Brothers together, yet another call-back to the 1986 action classic.
