What were you doing on Valentine’s Day? Downing a bottle of Chardonnay while watching Sex and the City reruns? Well, test engineer/racing driver Brian Smith was busy breaking the speed record for a production car in a 1,244 horsepower Hennessey Venom GT. He got up to 270.49 – beating the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport‘s previous record by a mere 0.63 mph – when he ran out of room on his testing strip, the Kennedy Space Center’s 3.2-mile Space Shuttle landing runway (what, did you think he did it on the BQE?).
