Conor McGregor Won’t Fight Again Unless He Gets a ‘Slice’ of the UFC

The two division titleholder may be ready to walk.

Conor McGregor did it, just as he said he would. He claimed the UFC men’s lightweight belt to pair with his featherweight title. Now he’s got some clout and he knows it. So during post UFC 205 remarks he made it clear: he wants his share of the whole thing.

McGregor had said he had something big on his plate and he wasn’t kidding. He announced he was going to be a father in 2017 and said, “I’m crapping my jocks, I’m not gonna lie.”

“I don’t even know what way to take it,” the Notorious One continued, “It’s kinda messing with my head because I don’t want to be bringing a child into this. I don’t want no celebrity type show, I hate all that. I don’t want my family to be like that. So that’s kind of a little thing in my head. So I’m just gonna have this baby, take a little time, and see what way I feel after that.”

As a true MMA superstar it’d be easy to assume McGregor isn’t worried about the bottom line, but that would be the wrong assumption. He’s plenty ready to fight, he told the press, but with a child on the way, things aren’t so simple anymore. “There’s not a fucking thing wrong with me, so I can keep going all day,” he said, “But I’m aware of my worth, and now I’ve got a family. Now I’ve got a kid on the way. So I’m coming for mine now if you want me back.”

According to McGregor, “mine” means a big bite of the UFC. “I’ve got both belts, a chunk of money, a little family on the way,” said the Irishman, so if Dana White wants him still bringing in the box office receipts, then “let’s talk. But I want the ownership now. I want equal share. I want what I earned.”

McGregor was deadly serious, adding that he wants “a real slice,” and the owners need to deal.

If they don’t, even a Ronda Rousey comeback may not help them cope with a Conor-sized hole in UFC promotions.

It would be surprising if he didn’t hear from the owners very soon.
