The Mountain from ‘Game of Thrones’: I’d Destroy Conor McGregor in 10 Seconds in Real Fight

The World’s Strongest Man sparred with McGregor in 2015. Now he’s ready to throw down for real.

Way back in 2015, before Conor McGregor was a mercurial former UFC champ who’d dabbled in boxing then flirted with prison, and before Hafthor Julius Bjornsson was a world famous actor and the world’s strongest man, the two men met up in a Dublin gym for a playful sparring session. 

It was largely playful, but McGregor did land some real shots and Björnsson, best known as The Mountain from Game of Thrones, appeared to toy with crushing the 145-pounder like an ant.

“That’s a big man. Six-foot-nine, four- hundred pound, and I still folded him up,” McGregor said a few months later. “I sunk him good. I caught him good. Not even a Mountain can take these shots from me.”

Now, nearly two-and-a-half years later, Björnsson has responded. “I could break him, ” Björnsson said on the YouTube show Off The Ball.. “There were at least two moments I could have smashed him.”

“Bring me shorts and put us in a cage, and I’ll fight him again,” Bjornsson said. 

How long would it take him to win? “10 seconds,” he said. Asked how many McGregors it would take to bret him, the strongman said “maybe five.”

Bjornsson is riding high in recent weeks, coming off of his first-ever World’s Strongest Man title. After finishing in either second or third place for the past six years, he finally took down the title in Manila this year.

The World’s Strongest Man title wasn’t even his only one of the year. He also took down Europe’s Strongest Man and the Arnold (Schwarzenegger) Strongman Classic, becoming the first person to ever win them all in the same year.
