“We knew at some point we would connect with a good punch.”

Junior dos Santos hasn’t stepped in the UFC octagon to contend for a heavyweight championship in more than a year, but his performance at the Fight Night event held in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday indicated he hasn’t lost a step.
At almost two minutes into round 2, dos Santos stopped Derrick Lewis cold, winning his third fight in a row with a TKO. It was kind of ugly.
Dos Santos landed a hard combination to take Lewis down, perhaps also sealing a certified triumphant comeback from a PEDs suspension.
In statements after the fight it was clear he knew what he was doing.
“I have combinations,” dos Santos said, “and I work on my combinations all the time.”
He concluded, “We knew at some point we would connect with a good punch.”
The match was brief, but not boring. After all, Lewis is the “My balls was hot guy,” so he doesn’t do boring.
After dos Santos connected with a solid overhand shot in the first round, Lewis came back hard with a right. Dos Santos wasn’t crushed, obviously—he countered with a kick that Lewis pushed off, swinging wide.
Lewis looked shook between rounds, and the result was proof that he was.
All in all, an entertaining fight. Not quite as entertaining as Lewis’s infamous Joe Rogan interview, but close.
