The Kansas City Royals Forced Players to Sit Through an Anti-Porn Seminar

They didn’t seem thrilled.

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore does not like porn

Last year, the 51-year-old executive made his feelings public while discussing the DUI arrest of pitcher Danny Duffy. Asked what the team was doing to prevent similar problems in the future, Moore said:

We’ve done a lot of leadership stuff with our players. Very transparent about things that happen in our game, not only with drugs and alcohol. We talk about pornography, and the effects of what that does to the minds of players and the distractions, and how that leads to abuse of—domestic abuse—to abuse of women. How it impacts relationships—we talk about a lot of things. And I don’t mind sharing with you.

Record scratch!

Moore faced some ridicule for linking porn to abuse of women, and some of it came from women in the industry themselves. Porn star Kendra Lust, for one, told TMZ that Moore had it backwards.

“In all honesty, I think that porn helps keep people’s relationships healthy,” she told TMZ. “It helps keep them safe from maybe going out and being unfaithful to their spouse, and for me personally, it’s helped my life a lot.”

Not everyone disagreed with Moore though. Fight the New Drug, a group that’s dedicated to fighting pornography, was one of the groups that found his comments refreshing.

The organization hooked up with Moore, leading to a team-wide presentation against porn. And it looks like everyone had a blast.

In an article on its own website, Fight the New Drug praises the Royals for becoming the “first MLB team to take a stand against porn” and lays out what they talked about during the seminar:

We presented to the players about the research, and how porn has the potential to impact their overall well-being, productivity, performance, as well as their personal image, considering how much they’re in the spotlight and the public eye. This is something that can impact them in ways that can impact their careers, and they were super receptive to the info we shared.

It added that “a few of Royals players let us know they were stoked to have us.”

And while that might be hard to believe, realize that there were hundreds of people in the room. “A few” of them being stoked to hear about the horrors of porn sounds about right.
