Back in November, Nevadans went to the polls and voted by an overwhelming margin to make recreational weed legal in the state. Now the Nevada Athletic Commission, which sanctions UFC fights and boxing matches in Las Vegas and other cities, is considering a repeal on its ban against fighters burning the wacky weed.
The NAC will take up the issue on Friday and you can bet that the Diaz brothers will be watching closely.
Nick Diaz was famously suspended for five years, though it was later reduced to an 18-month ban, and fined $165,000, later reduced to $100,000, for his third failed marijuana test in 2015. His weed-loving brother Nate Diaz, as you can see in the vape pen video above, has also openly availed himself of the therapeutic properties of cannabis.
The bad news here is that even if the NAC overturns it pot ban, fighters will still face some restrictions. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency still bars marijuana in-competition, defined by six hours before a fight begins and six hours after it ends.
Still, even with USADA's ban in place, the NAC allowing pot will be reason for MMA fighters to celebrate. The Diaz brothers and their friend Snoop Dogg will no doubt be the first to light up a celebratory joint.
