Converse’s New ‘Urban Utility’ Sneakers Are Winterized Wonders

Winter doesn’t stand a chance.

Converse‘s rough-and-tumble new “Urban Utility” line is dropping classic kicks in waterproofed, winter-ready materials.

Its latest addition is a re-tooled version of its Chuck ’70 Hiker, which is traditionally made of canvas. 

Now called the Chuck Taylor 70’s Utility Hiker, the all-new high tops have a militaristic mix of nylon fabrics and a Gore-Tex seam-sealed membrane, which ensures its water-wicking capabilities.

There are some serious style pops, like a tonal reflective panel on the upper and a safety orange sock-liner.

An upgraded Jump Boot, called the Urban Utility Jump High Top, is also pretty striking. A utilitarian patchwork upper and the same Gore-Tex membrane make for a perfect alternative to a traditional winter boot.

Its extra-long cotton laces, which secure the extended neoprene collar, are its primarily style flourish.

The Chuck Taylor 70’s Utility Hiker goes for $150, and the Urban Utility Jump High Top for $170.
