The nature of reinvention offers limitless possibilities when the goal is updating a timeless classic in the watch world, as Girard-Perregaux serves up four new editions of the Laureato to toast five decades of the sporty, refined model.

The newly retooled Laureato timepieces join an ultra-limited-edition Girard-Perregaux Laureato 50 that debuted last fall in a run of just 200 watches. That particular watch delivered a 39mm case and a steel and 3N yellow gold build, one the watchmaker says captured “five decades of timeless design and forward-thinking craftsmanship,” a sentiment echoed by the new quartet.

The latest Girard-Perregaux Laureato 50 lineup boasts two chic 36mm timepieces and two 39mm watches featuring the same iconic hallmarks of both sporty elegance and dressy refinement that made the Laureato a prized 1970s release.

A 36mm rose gold-toned case is particularly appealing and “offers a different variation of this same pursuit of depth and refinement,” the watchmaker said. Equally eye-catching is a textured, vibrant blue dial option in a 39mm build carries on the tonneau-shaped case and versatile legacy of the Laureato. At play across each dial is the watchmaker’s signature “Clous de Paris” motif, creating a “mesmerizing set of reflections,” Girard-Perregaux noted. Billed as both “highly sophisticated and deeply architectural,” the dial is offset by a sleek stainless steel band.

Within each watch rests another Girard-Perregaux signature, the watchmaker’s Caliber 4800GP movement, featuring a 60-hour power reserve and ticking along at 4Hz. The newest Laureato 50 seemingly checks all the proper boxes while nodding to the watchmaker’s heritage, specifically its Three Bridges balance bridge design, as Girard-Perregaux says “the result is entirely deliberate” in terms of design inspiration.

The hardware within, while not as complex as the horologist’s recent, ultra-complicated minutes repeater release, bolsters the heritage of a model with plenty of pedigree already behind it. Accordingly, each edition of the latest Girard-Perregaux Laureato 50 is priced at more than $20,000, a reflection of the precision and history as each second ticks away across its handsome, sporty-yet-luxurious and deeply detailed dial.
