We’re Stuck on These Sneakers Made From Recycled Chewing Gum
It’s not as nasty as it sounds.
It’s a sneaker geek’s worst nightmare: stepping on wadded up chewing gum and messing up the soles of your fresh new kicks.
The fine people of Amsterdam are fighting this common footwear concern with an ingenious creation: the first-ever sneakers made from recycled chewing gum.

“We discovered gum is made from a synthetic rubber, and by breaking down these properties we were able to create a new type of rubber,” says Anna Bullus, a Gum-tec® designer says.
She and her team scour the streets of Amsterdam, where gum is the second most common form of litter after cigarettes. 3.3 million pounds of gym wind up on the city’s streets each year.
Just 2.2 pounds of gum are needed to make four pairs of these eco-minded kicks.
The “Gumshoe” will be available in bubblegum pink or black and red. Expect them to go for sale in June for $232.
