We got our first look at this year's Pirelli calendar back in August, and now that it's been officially unveiled in Paris, we can safely say that it does not disappoint.
Renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, who is credited by many as the creator of the "supermodel," has made good on his promise to take the Milan-based tire manufacturer's calendar away from its traditional pin-up style and into a more artistic direction.
"As an artist, I feel I have a responsibility to free women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection," he said at the calendar's international launch. "Society's ideal of perfection is impossible to achieve."
To do this, he cast veteran A-list actresses rather than supermodels for the shoot, including Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Penelope Cruz, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, and Charlotte Rampling, and used minimal makeup and retouching techniques. Lindbergh's concept was to "capture sensitivity and emotion, laying bare the souls of the women in the images, rendering them more naked than a nude."
It's a bold idea, but the beautiful black-and-white portraits are a sight to behold. Take an abbreviated look at the 2017 Pirelli calendar in the gallery above.
