Anna Kendrick didn’t become a comedic sex symbol and Oscar nominee by always playing nice.
While she may be endearingly self-deprecating on the screen–in Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect–Kendrick, next starring in the R-rated comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, recently showed us that this kitty can scratch.
In her photo shoot for the cover of Net-A-Porter’s The EDIT, the 30-year-old actress tried on the glamour puss role, posing as a seductive femme fatale alongside, yes, a cat.

But it’s in her interview where the claws come out. Speaking about her sometimes awkward interactions with fans, Kendrick said, “I’d be terrible at being like Taylor Swift, the perfect Miss America version of interacting with fans and making sure they have a good experience.”
“When I’m snarky with people, they know that’s just how I communicate,” Kendrick said. “I mean, I don’t want people to meet me and have it f*** up their day, but I’m glad I can say something weird to them and they know that’s just me.”

Perhaps Anna didn’t intend for her comments to be taken as a dig, but it’s hard not to read the “perfect Miss America” line as a sardonic quip against T-Swift and her carefully cultivated public image.
Whatever she meant by it, it’s just nice to see a movie star speaking her mind and keeping it real.
