If You Liked “Drive,” Get Ready for This

So your girlfriend is obsessed with Ryan Gosling. Get over it. Even though you resent knowing she’d leave you for the brooding former Mouseketeer in a heartbeat, you still have to admit that the dude has been in some pretty awesome movies (The Notebook notwithstanding). Our favorite Gosling vehicle (pun intended) by far is Drive, 2011’s nearly dialogue-free classic about a stuntman/getaway driver who gets in way over his head. (If you haven’t seen it, Netflix it tonight.) Well, Gosling is teaming up with Danish Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn once again for the upcoming Bangkok-set thriller Only God Forgives. Judging from this just-released red-band trailer, the plot — “Julien (Gosling) is a drug kingpin tasked with avenging his brother’s death, but a mysterious, unhinged policeman is following his every move” — is merely an excuse for some visually stunning (and sometimes stomach-turning) sex and violence. In other words, we’re waiting in line already.

Only God Forgives hits theaters July 19.
