Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Workout Will Get You Totally Jacked, No Matter How Old You Are
Here’s how to get as ripped as the martial arts action star.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, aka “The Muscles from Brussels,” is 57, yet he still looks better than most of us, and could probably tear someone a new one with his eyes closed.
And finally, decades after starring in classic Hollywood action flicks like Kickboxer and Timecop, Van Damme and his muscles are making their much-anticipated appearance in a brand-new Amazon Prime series called Jean-Claude Van Johnson, which premiered December 15th.
In the series, which stars the beloved martial arts icon as a fictional version of himself, Van Damme plays an action star who is actually a secret agent, and even though he’s already in fantastic shape (and probably always will be), he upped his training to get even more ripped for the role — and he revealed exactly how he did it.
“I trained this morning. I did my bicycle and 40 minutes of weights, kickboxing and stretching,” he told Men’s Health. “Let’s say, when I do my chest, I will do biceps and forearms, and [the next day] triceps and back and calves, and then my legs and abs. One day rest, one day train. And then I also do cardio three times a week.”
And on how he manages to stay so fit and impossibly limber at the gracefully mature age of 57, he says: “I think it’s because I started training when I was very young. I was always into flexibility training, so it made my muscles very elastic. Also, I have good genes from my parents, and that DNA is very important. My mother and father’s skin is impeccable.”
And lastly, if you’re wondering if he can still pull off his signature move, rest assured, because he sure as hell can. “I can still do my splits!”
