An Malibu mansion once occupied by legendary actor Steve McQueen can be yours for $17 million.

The four-bedroom, five-bathroom oceanfront abode formerly owned by the Bullitt star known as the “King of Cool” is listed by Coldwell Banker Realty‘s Elizabeth Donovan, who writes, “This astutely renovated architectural home is perched on a bluff behind gates in the coveted Victoria Point community and harmoniously connects the outdoors and indoors.”

According to a 2012 biography written by Marc Eliot and cited by Architectural Digest, The Great Escape star, who was once the world’s highest-paid actor, retreated to the Malibu escape with actress Ali MacGraw after the critical panning of 1971’s Le Mans. The husband and wife would “walk unrecognized and undisturbed, along the beach together every afternoon. Steve liked to call it living in domestic bliss.”

McQueen and MacGraw no doubt enjoyed stacks of seaside decks and a private staircase leading to the beach, but the 4,335-square-feet of interior living space is equally alluring.

(The Luxury Level)

The main level features an open-plan kitchen, dining room, and living room with a fireplace connecced to a sprawling ocean view deck that’s hidden by a disappearing glass wall. Primary suites on the upper and lower levels feature wood paneling, fireplaces and spa-style bathrooms.

The property has changed hands a couple of times recently, being sold by the actor’s son Chad McQueen for $7.2 million in July 2020 and then purchased for $8.35 miillion by songwriter Ammar Malik, who remodeled the property and upgraded its plumbing and electrical systems.
