Mount Gay, the world’s oldest running rum distillery, has officially announced the launch of its new Exceptionally Aged Collection, a high-end series evolving from the brand’s Master Blender Collection. For the first time in its storied history, the Barbadian distillery is introducing clear age statements to its premium lineup.

The inaugural release features two highly limited expressions: Exceptionally Aged 15 and Exceptionally Aged 25. True to Mount Gay’s high standards, both rums are crafted without any added sugar or flavorings. They are 100 percent distilled, aged, blended, and bottled on-site at the Mount Gay Distillery in St. Lucy, drawing heavily from the foresight of past blenders who laid down these spirits decades ago.

This new collection represents a rare collaboration spanning generations of expertise. The 15-year-old expression began under former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, who distilled the rum on a single column still and matured it in ex-American oak bourbon casks. Stewardship then passed to former Master Blender Allen Smith and current Master Blender Trudiann Branker, who finalized the blend.

Similarly, the 25-year-old expression was distilled in 1999 under Edwards and aged exclusively in ex-bourbon casks for a quarter of a century. Smith oversaw the bulk of its maturation before Branker crafted the final liquid. Mount Gay noted that aging both expressions exclusively in ex-bourbon casks achieved an intensity and complexity that beautifully reflects the tropical Barbadian climate.

The Exceptionally Aged 15 is said to offer a palate of “butterscotch, vanilla, orange zest, and subtle sea salt,” while the ultra-rare Exceptionally Aged 25 delivers deep notes of “raisin, toffee, roasted nuts, and gingerbread” with a silky finish. Both expressions are non-chill filtered and come in packaging inspired by Barbados, featuring ocean blues, sandy creams, and wave details, with the 25-year-old housed in a premium gift box. The luxe new rums are available now across the U.S. while supplies last, with the Exceptionally Aged 15 limited to 4,942 bottles worldwide for $90, and the Exceptionally Aged 25 limited to just 2,376 bottles globally for $199.
