Watch Ford’s All-Electric F-150 Pickup Truck Pull a 1 Million Pound Train

Ford flaunted its all-electric F-150 pickup truck’s outrageous towing capability by releasing a video of the prototype pulling over 1 million pounds. 

The forthcoming EV dragged 10 double-decker train cars packed with 42 full-size 2019 F-150 a distance of 1,000 feet in an impressive display of the American automaker’s futuristic tough tech.  

While a gas-less model of America’s best-selling pickup is definitely coming, Ford has yet to announce specs, how much it will cost, or when it will be available. The first-ever hybrid version is coming in 2020, according to a press release. 

“What we’re trying to show is the benefits of that instant torque from that electric motor,” said Linda Zhang, chief engineer of the F-150, said of the stunt per USA Today. “The electrified F-150 will be able to add new possibilities that are only possible with an electric motor.”

The Verge notes that the F-150 EV smashed the previous record, which was set by a Tesla Model X that towed a 287,000-pound Boeing jet nearly 1,000 feet in 2018. 

It’s worth noting Elon Musk’s SUV is only rated for a 5,00-pound towing capacity, and the current F-150’s is 13,200 pounds.

The electrified F-150 will clearly have some serious guts, but don’t expect it to take on jobs of this magnitude with any regularity.
