Kourtney Kardashian Buys Travis Barker His ‘Dream Car’—A Classic Buick GNX
This “Buick Regal from Hell” was once the fastest American muscle car.
Kourtney Kardashian just solidified her dream girl status by gifting fiancee Travis Barker his dream car—a Buick GNX.
The Blink 182 drummer and Machine Gun Kelly collaborator got the keys to the rare classic muscle car for his 46th birthday on November 14, per the New York Post.
“When your dream girl gets you your dream car,” Barker captioned a photos of the retro ride parked outside LA’s Bel-Air Hotel. His future wife replied, “You deserve the world.”
Tracking down a GNX couldn’t have been an easy feat, even for a Kardashian. The model’s origin story begins with the 1982 launch of the Regal’s Grand National trim, named for the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series that Buick won in 1981.
The GNX performance package proved to be a hit, and helped create fans of Buick turbos throughout the mid-1980s. But the GNX—Grand National Experimental—was produced for one year only in 1987 to serve as the Regal Grand National’s swan song.
McLaren Engines helped modify the turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 to produce an (underrated) 276 hp and 360 pound-feet of torque. The so-called “Regal From Hell” could hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, making it the fastest American production car of the day. According to GM, only 547 GNX models were built, compared to the 20,193 Grand National Regals produced the same year.
Hagerty lists a $200,000 valuation for a Buick GNX in pristine condition, which looks to be what Barker got. Hopefully it’ll help fill the void left by the rock star’s sale of a Cadillac Coupe de Ville, Chevy K5 Blazer, and Cadillac Series 62 Deluxe.
