With an iconic watch like the Tag Heuer Carrera, one so firmly embedded in the watch world, it’s often about finding the right balance between subtle and bold design details: Why tinker too much with a legendary timepiece?

Unless, of course, that “tinkering” involves a new movement that honors both 60 years of the Tag Heuer Carrera and 60 years of the Porsche 911. The two previously teamed up on a fiery orange Carrera watch to honor Porsche Racing, and this duo of watches raises the bar even higher.

The Tag Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche is a speedy, undeniably cool homage to the famed car in every way possible, including design details throughout the dial that nod to 1970s Porsche dashboards.

The impressive triple-chronograph watch is a road-ready timepiece that follows on the heels of the high seas-worthy Tag Heuer Carrera Skipper, which brought back a 1960s archival timepiece earlier this summer.

But between the clean lines and bold power of this watch, it’s what’s inside that rivals the inner workings of any Porsche. The watch is outfitted with a new Tag Heuer movement, the TH20-O8, designed specifically to measure short bursts of time with remarkable accuracy.

The quick-draw, 33-jeel movement “mirrors the first Porsche 911’s, the Porsche 901, mythical acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds,” Tag Heuer notes.

The ultra-streamlined, luxurious watch (available in both stainless steel and 18-karat solid rose gold), sees the two famed global brands “fuse automotive excellence with horological mastery,” Tag Heuer added.

Each watch is also adorned with a luxe leather strap outfitted with “911” detailing, and of the two, the solid rose gold number clocks in $23,550, while the black leather-meets-stainless steel iteration retails for $9,200.

Either of these timepieces (which one imagines will fly off shelves) are a wearable piece of history that nods to the past and drives off forward into the future.
