Back in 1969, TAG Heuer released the iconic Monaco watch as the first ever square automatic chronograph in the history of timepieces, and now, to celebrate its landmark 50th anniversary, TAG Heuer is releasing a new limited edition model called the Monaco 50, along with a special coffee table book.

The classic 1969 watch had a square case, blue dial, red and blue hands, and was the first water-resistant watch with an automatic chronograph.

Not much is known about the new Monaco 50 itself, but the brand posted a video on Instagram detailing how iconic the timepiece is, from its creation to how it was adored by late actor and men’s style god Steve McQueen.

The book is called the Paradoxical Superstar and contains never-before-seen photos and sketches of the timepiece, as well as a foreword written by H. S. H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The Monaco 50 will release in May 2019, and can be bought in TAG Heuer stores and online.
