Demi Lovato Talks About Casual Sex and Cocaine Addiction in Her Revealing ‘Simply Complicated’
“There is something sexy about someone putting in all of their physical strength into their passion.”
Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated was just posted on Youtube a few days ago and the nearly 90-minute documentary already has well over 5 million views.
It’s easy to see why. Sure, many viewers are fans who will check out anything Lovato-related, but the doc is well-made and probably one of the most revealing and honest looks at a celebrity in quite some time.
Lovato is 25 and she’s already lived one hell of a full life. In Simply Complicated she details her serious cocaine problem, the trials of getting clean, and her attitude about casual sex, among other things.

About coke: “I loved it… I felt out of control with the coke the first time that I did it.” She also says her dad was an “addict and alcoholic,” and that led to her searching “for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family.”
Regarding getting sober when she was still just 18, Lovato says she wasn’t ready at first. She was “sneaking cocaine on planes, I was sneaking it in bathrooms, sneaking it throughout the night.”

She goes on to detail just how close her substance abuse came to killing her. At one point she nearly died from an upper and downer combo. Then perhaps she hit her rock bottom with an overdose of pills that put her in the psych ward. There, says the singer and actress, she “didn’t feel anything. I didn’t feel guilty. I didn’t feel embarrassed.”
Lovato doesn’t exactly skate around issues of sexuality, either. She talks about dating, meeting others via the invitation-only app Raya. “I am open to human connection,” she says “so whether that’s through a male or female, it doesn’t matter to me. “There is something sexy,” she says, “about someone putting in all of their physical strength into their passion.”

Demi Lovato also has very open and frank feelings regarding hooking up. “There’s a certain stigma around women having casual sex,” she says. For her, “I feel it’s my body, it’s my choice, it’s exciting, it’s a connection with somebody and it’s fun.
“When I feel confident,” she goes on to say, “I feel sexy, and when I feel sexy, watch out!”
