The just-launched Unimatic Swimming Pool Capsule (which seems to appear with more inventory available than past limited-edition offerings) embraces summer fun and seasonal performance at its finest. Both vivid blue-dial watch models in the collection, the Modello Uno and the Modello Cinque, deliver a diving-ready 300 meters of water resistance. Perhaps most striking are the dials themselves, designed to shimmer and reflect light in the same manner as the pool or the ocean. Contrasted against a deep navy, grooved rubber strap, the effect is playful and visually striking.

The cult-favorite Italian watchmaker has a knack for tool watches that boast both sleek style points and serious performance pedigree, from its Special Ops-inspired, blacked-out dive watch to fashion-forward collaborations with famed American menswear designer Todd Snyder. There’s a similar sense of both playful ease and durable performance in the Unimatic Swimming Pool Capsule, right down to details like Unimatic’s own 3D-blocked version of Super-LumiNova dial markings for extremely enhanced visibility.

The watchmaker played off the poolside and ocean-inspired theme with a range of blue-hued dial options, which contrast handsomely and vividly with white dial markings in the brand’s characteristically bold-but-minimal fashion (you tend to spot a Unimatic on someone’s wrist nearly immediately). Color options include Crystal Blue, Acqua Laguna and Infinity Mint, each paired with a quick-release two-piece rubber strap. The Modello Uno boasts a more sturdy 41.5mm sandblasted stainless steel case, while its counterpart in the collection features a 36mm case with a fixed mono-block bezel for good measure (the Uno is designed with a mono-directional safety bezel).

The buzzed-about horologist went deep on waterside, coastal inspiration in designing the collection. “The art of slowing down is a hard-learned lesson.Rushing thoughts drag us through daily life, forcing us to look at the world with tired eyes,” the watchmaker said. “And that’s how we waste time we’re never going to get back. Yet sometimes, an oasis appears, suspended in time, detached from noise and urgency.”

Designed with the company’s 360-degree protection system and tested to standards including MIL-STD-810H certification, these quartz tool watches were developed and put through their paces in Italy. Within the watch, things become even more curious, as a Quartz Seiko VH31A with a roughly two-year power reserve delivers timekeeping accurate to within about 15 seconds per year. The hacking/sweeping seconds hand functionality is also a pleasing point of distinction, the watchmaker notes.

As summertime fun in the sun beckons, the modern watchmaker is betting that its Unimatic Swimming Pool Capsule will make a serious splash, whether through its water resistance, its shock protection or its combination of utility and fashionable good looks. For under $800 (the Modell Cinque retails for $700 and the Modello Uno will run you $740), the durability and vibrant style of your next adventure watch should prove nearly unmatched.
