Women Won’t Regret One-Night Stands If Her Partner Is Good in Bed, Study Finds

Look, we all know one-night stands are one of the greatest parts of singledom. You’re out with some friends, all that liquor has you feeling all sorts of frisky, when suddenly, you find yourself waking up next to the mega-babe you were making eyes at. Score!
But as you can imagine, not everyone feels the same joy about taking a stranger home for the night…especially women, who tend to regret everything as they wake up with last night’s eye makeup smeared panda-style and desperately search for their panties on your bedroom floor.
But according to a study of 763 people, most women are totally down for a one-night stand with a complete stranger… as long as the guy she’s sleeping with is magnificent in the sack, and she’s the one to initiate the single night of wildly uninhibited sex.
In other words, she needs to be 1) mind-numbingly horny, and 2) banging a man who knows how to get her off in order to appreciate the wholesome beauty of having sex with a random guy she’ll never see again.
“Women who initiate sex are likely to have at least two distinguishing qualities. First, they are likely to have a healthy sexual psychology, being maximally comfortable with their own sexuality. Second, women who initiate have maximum choice of precisely who they have sex with,” says study co-author Dr. David Buss of the University of Texas.
Plus, “it may mean they choose a better-looking man to sleep with,” adds lead author of the study, Dr. Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair, suggesting women are DTF with no regrets when the guy is a total hottie. Yup. Very accurate.
The study also found that women are more likely to regret hooking up with a rando they just met a bar an hour ago, whereas men are more likely to regret letting the opportunity to go home with a random chick for some no-strings-attached lovin’ pass them by. You know, because the ladies are all about emotional connection and sweet, sweet romance, and guys don’t really need any of that to smash.
Kennair, of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, believes the reason for women’s reluctance in having a one-night stand is an innate evolutionary mechanism, because if things don’t go as planned and the sex gets sloppy, she’s the one who ends up pregnant. And in that case, the fun one-nighter turns into lifetime of raising a child she didn’t exactly want in the first place.
“Women in the past had a lot more to lose from having sex with a non-committed partner, as if they got pregnant the man could walk away at no cost to anything but his reputation while she would be left to bring up the child. We know today that women are more worried than men about pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and their reputation,” he explained.
Plus, since most women probably won’t reach the big O during a one-night tryst, whereas the greater majority of men will, it’s a win-win for him. Ha, that rhymed.
“Women’s greater worry and lower levels of sexual gratification partially explain why women regret casual sex,” Kennair says, suggesting that for a quasi-anonymous hookup to be worth it for both parties, there needs to be orgasms all around.
However, the researchers also discovered that both men and women tend to regret the one-night stand if the person they hooked up with is “sexually incompetent.” This isn’t surprising, considering “sexually incompetent” is one of the most ego-shattering insults I’ve ever heard.
That said, next time you’re in for a singular night of debauchery, don’t just roll over and pass out after you bust that nut. Make sure she reaches the finish line, too. Please and thank you.
