This Rare Porsche 918 Is Set to Fetch Over $1 Million at Auction

The topless 887-horsepower hybrid stuns with a Liquid Metal Chrome Blue paint coat and Acid Green accents.

RM Sotheby’s is gearing up to sell one of the rarest and most important flagship Porsches of the last decade, a plug-in hybrid hypercar that paved the way for the automaker’s top-selling Taycan EV.

The Porsche 918 Spyder succeeded the storied Carrera GT at the top of the storied marque’s range, taking on other hybrid heavyweights of the mid-2010s like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.

But while the Brit and Italian were focused on conquering track corners and straights as fast as possible, the German could function comfortably as a daily driver that happened to have a maniacal amount of power on tap.

Even so, it bested the McLaren and the Ferrari in a straight-line sprint to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds.

A flat-plane 4.6-liter V8 with a screaming 9,000-rpm redline teams up with dual electric motors to send 887 horsepower and 994 pound-feet of torque through Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch seven-speed. Massive ceramic breaks and active aero bits like an adjustable rear wing are counted among its performance componentry.

This 2015 example, No. 465 of 918 produced, stuns with a model-exclusive “Liquid Metal Chrome Blue” paint coat and “Acid Green” accents over an “Authentic Onyx Black” interior that received Porsche’s carbon fiber upgrade package.

Believed to have had just two owners from new, this 918 Spyder shows fewer than 1,400 miles at the time of cataloguing. The majority of the car’s body is covered by paint protection film, preserving its beautiful and visually arresting exterior finish.

Thanks this precautionary step, and given its very modest use, it is in spectacular condition—giving its next owner to enjoy the closest thing to an “as-new” 918 Spyder experience as is possible today. It is accompanied by its window sticker and manuals.
